CHAPTER 11. Afterword
This project commemorates the 100th Anniversary of The Calgary Lees Association in May of 2010. This project attempts to portray the roles of the Chinese Benevolent Associations from the first Chinese sojourners who came to Canada in the 1860’s to the present. This is not a book about the Calgary Lees Association.
It is important for all overseas Chinese Canadians to understand and preserve their cultural heritage and by so doing you come to know yourself, your society and your place in the universe.
I encourage other Lee Associations and other Chinese Benevolent Associations to make contributions to this website in order to preserve their cultural heritage for their children and future generations. Hopefully, the greater Canadian community may come to understand the cultural roots of discrimination lie in ignorance and arrogance.
The second purpose of this project is to educate the larger Canadian community in order to remove the cross-cultural barriers that still exist today. The majority of Canadians have no concept of the role played by overseas Chinese Canadians in the development of Canada because our history has been presented from an Occidental perspective.
As the editor for this book and website where its contents reside, I would like to acknowledge the contributions from the Lee associations from across Canada. I would like to thank Raymond T. Lee for producing the Internet Edition of this book for the Calgary Lees Association 100th Anniversary Yearbook.
Regards,
